Lagniappe Cinemas and Photography

Our Story

It’s pronounced “Lan-YAP.”

Lagniappe Cinemas and Photography started in October 2010. Our name was chosen from the Louisiana Creole word lagniappe, which means an offering of something extra and unexpected on top of a standard business practice. We like to think we give all of our clients a little bit of lagniappe in all of our services. Our name represents both our Gulf Coast heritage and how we run our business.

We are a female-led, minority-owned, family-oriented creative boutique business that caters to everyone. We will always cater to everyone. Every client is special to us and we will work hard for you.

Co-Owner/Video Producer/Videographer/Photographer

Sharonda is the creative engine behind Lagniappe Cinemas and Photography. Sharonda is a true Southern-bred independent filmmaker, photographer, and artist. A native of Mobile, Alabama, she is artistically inspired by the colorful, joie de vivre lifestyle and history of the Gulf Coast. She is a proud graduate of the University of Southern California’s storied film school. She’s also has a masters degree from Spring Hill College.

Sharonda believes in “story-first” filmmaking and photography. Southerners are natural storytellers! Sometimes the best stories are the simplest ones. Let her tell your unique story.

Photography-wise, Sharonda specializes in documentary photography and artistic portraiture, using contrast and color inspired by painters such as Rembrandt, Renoir, and David. Her photography influences are Gordon Parks, Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Dianne Arbus, and or course Richard Avedon. She shoots both studio and on-location.

She is currently serving a 3-year term on the board for the Nebraska Film Association. She is also a member of Professional Photographers of America, Nebraska Independent Film Projects, the USC Trojan Entertainment Network, and the Mobile Arts Council. She teaches photography, video, and digital media as an adjunct instructor.

She’s a dog person who likes to read, travel, play tennis, and cook. She has a husband named Joe and a rabbit named Smokey.
